Lean To Shed Plans And Building Tips

For someone like me who is still sort of a beginner when it comes to do it yourself projects, lean to shed plans are essential for building a lean to shed. I can even build a decent shed with a great set of plans … and at a very reasonable cost. I would like to discuss some great tips as to why a lean to shed might be the best option for.

(1) The first tip is cost. The great thing about a lean to shed is it only has 3 sides. That alone will make it cheaper than building a regular 4-sided shed. Whatever you decide to use your 3 sided lean to shed for, such as for providing shelter to livestock or storing firewood means you do not have to worry too much about how pretty it needs to look.

For those reasons, you can use free and used wood. If you are using the shed for livestock, the 3 sides will provide natural ventilation which can keep disease from spreading. If you are using the shed to store firewood, then your wood will dry faster for good use in the winter.

(2) Another think you should know is you really only have 2 choices for how you want to lean your shed. You may have the inclination to lean the shed against your home or a building or barn, in which case you may be a bit more concerned about how it looks. Or the shed can be free standing for the protection of livestock in which case you probably won’t care how it looks.

(3) A really good 3rd tip is you can use free or recycled materials and wood you may just have laying around. You can even use cheap or used pallet for the floor only to ensure that whatever you are storing is kept off the ground and dry. With the shed out in the field for cattle you need not worry too much about a floor.

These are some great tips to consider when thinking about building a lean to shed but you will need to get a hold of some really good lean to shed plans to go with these tips. A friend of mine used a great set of Cradle Plans to build a baby cradle from a huge library of premium plans. I suggest you check the same library for a good set of lean to shed plans.

Fitness is a very important aspect of American society these days. We are learning just how obese our nation is and that facets of our lifestyle are not helping us to be healthy. Building a simple storage shed to store your firewood may seem like a simple task as all you basically need is somewhere to stack it all up so that it stays dry. However today one needs to consider the building regulations, how the structure will impact upon the neighbors and even the weather where you live.

I became interested in building a simple storage shed to house my firewood and keep it dry so it burnt efficiently when a couple of years ago we decided to move out of town a bit so I wound have some room to tinker about. Memories of my childhood also came flooding back when I saw that the house even had an indoor fireplace to keep us warm in the winter. Now that is something to look forward to I thought thinking about snuggling up to the wife in front of a nice warm fire.

Being the typical bloke my first thought was that I needed to acquire some firewood. So I ordered a truckload of firewood which was delivered promptly the next day. Where was I going to put my firewood so that I could keep it dry?

Being a handy sort of bloke I thought I could save some money by building a simple storage shed to house my firewood. My plans called for a simple structure that was 4 foot high, 5 foot wide and 6 foot long. Discussing this with my wife she suggested that I make it a bit higher so that I did not bang my head when I stood up with an arm full of firewood. Good suggestion so I set up a temporary structure to work out how high I needed to make it so that my head cleared the roof when I stood up. Basically my plans were for a structure with a timber frame for the three walls and roof which was then to be covered with some roofing iron to keep my firewood dry.

So after a lot of cursing and swearing and numerous trips to the timber yard and hardware store I finally had my rather ugly structure of three walls and a roof. However I then realized that I needed to get some flashing to waterproof the area where the roof and walls meet so it was another trip to the hardware store. Had I consulted some decent plans I would have realized that if I had built the roof to overhang the sides of my structure I would not have needed to use flashing after all.

For a floor I got some black waterproof sheeting which I laid directly on the ground. Then I loosely laid some bricks on the plastic sheeting and placed a sheet of reinforcing mesh over the top so that my firewood would not be in contact the ground. This gap also allowed for airflow and a place to lay some bait for rats and mice, if required, so that it was out of reach of cats and dogs. My rather ugly firewood shed does keep my firewood reasonably dry but I have no idea whether it satisfies the local building regulations and have yet had no complaints from my neighbors.

Now they say experience is a great teacher and if I could do it all over again I would get some decent firewood storage shed plans. Just by downloading a copy of My Shed Plans from http://woodshed-plans.blogspot.com/ you will hopefully see that a little time and money spent in planning is well spent.
